Astronomy Visualized

By on December 30, 2016

Join GEAR artist Josephine Allen and Director/Artist Mike Beall as they take you through the process of working closely with astronomy experts Adam Frank, Jeff Bary, Rich Townsend, and Rob Bellinger to create visuals for locations and elements in the galaxy that noone has actually ever seen!

One of the most difficult parts of working on a project so visual-heavy like At Play in the Cosmos is trying to figure out what some of the elements in the game actually look like. Most visualizations of galaxies and nebulas are artist’s renditions because they’re actually too big or too far away for current technology to capture their true appearance. Talk here about collaborating with the astronomers and translating complex scientific data into a visual that is scientifically accurate. Then talk about the process of iterating on the fly because science changes or something else comes out/is discovered that changes everything. Note about our ability for agility — haha neet!
